NSU Holds off Delaware, 4-3

NORFOLK, Va. –The Norfolk State men's tennis claimed its fourth straight win of the season with a 4-3 win against Delaware on Monday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.

NSU improved to 9-6 on the season and Delaware dropped to 4-6 overall.

The Blue Hens claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The Spartans lone doubles win was at the No. 2 match. Junior Peter Ramstromer-Pello and freshman Dzmitry Zyhmantovich improved to 6-5 on the season with their 8-4 win over Nolan Gelman and Evan Andrews. In the No. 1 spot, Troy Beneck and Adam Lawton defeated sophomore Igor Braga and freshman Robin Riethmueller, 8-4. Daniel Grauel and Samuel Lemberger suffered an 8-5 loss to Jason Derene and Mike Furr.

Zyhmantovich posted a 7-5, 6-3 win over Beneck in match number one to move to 11-3 in singles play. Riethmueller improved to 12-2 in singles competition after he defeated Gelman, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 at the No. 3 spot. In match No. 4 Ramstromer-Pello claimed a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Andrews. Grauel completed the singles victories for the Spartans with a 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-1 win over Jason Derene. Braga and Lemberger both dropped their singles matches. Braga fell to Lawton, 6-1, 6-2 and Lemberger fell to Furr, 2-6, 6-2, 6-7(6).

NSU will host Binghamton on Thursday at the NSU Tennis Complex in Norfolk, Va. Play begins at 2 p.m.
