NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team has earned the southern division's No. 3 seed  in the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships that will take place Friday through Sunday at the Millbrook Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. NSU will face Hampton, the northern division's No. 2 seed, in the quarterfinals on Friday.

NSU, Florida A&M and South Carolina State finished in a three-way tie for first place in the MEAC South after regular-season play was complete, marking the first time the Spartans have earned a share of a MEAC regular-season divisional title.  The Rattlers took the top seed due to the conference tie-breaker (total points won against tied teams) and will face the northern division's No. 4 seed, Howard. The five-time defending MEAC champion Bulldogs will compete against north No. 3 seed, Coppin State.

Bethune-Cookman rounded out the top four seeds in the south. The Wildcats will take on the northern division's No. 1 seed, Morgan State.

All the semifinal matches start at noon on Friday and will be played at the Millbrook Tennis Center. The championship will conclude on Sunday with the women's match starting at 9 a.m., and the men's match beginning at noon.

The NSU women's tennis team (10-8, 2-4) finished fifth in the southern division and did not qualify for the MEAC championship. Only the top four teams in each division compete in the tournament.
