Spartan Men in 3rd After 2nd Day of MEAC Outdoor Championships

Day 2 Results

GREENSBORO, N.C.
– The Norfolk State men sit in third place after the second day of action at the 2013 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of North Carolina A&T.

Hampton leads with 37 points, followed by South Carolina State with 35 and NSU with 33.5.

No running finals were contested on Friday, only the shot put, long jump and final decathlon events. NSU's top finisher in those events Friday was freshman Jamarian Bates, who took fourth in the long jump with a best effort of 6.95 meters (22 feet, 9.75 inches).

The Spartans did, however, fare very well in Friday's running preliminaries. Senior Kenneth Smith was the fastest qualifier in the 100 meters (10.53 seconds), as was classmate Keith Nkrumah in the 110 hurdles (13.73 seconds). Both of those times were the second-best efforts of the season for the two seniors.

Also Friday, James Taylor won his heat in the 400 meters (47.68 seconds) and Damian Smith also qualified for Saturday's finals in that event (47.76).

The third and final day of action gets underway at 9 a.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Live results are available here.
