NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State freshman David Kibet was named the MEAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

A native of Iten, Kenya, Kibet finished in first-place in the UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational 5K race on Saturday in Princess Anne, Md., where he ran a time of 15 minutes, 46.02 seconds in his first meet as a Spartan.

NSU dominated the field at the meet, taking the top four individual places as well as the team title. The Spartans finished with 17 points followed by Maryland Eastern Shore (57), Morgan State (68), Delaware State (104) and Coppin State (114).

The Spartans will return to action on Sept. 21 when they travel back to Princess Anne, Md., for the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational.
