Box Score NORFOLK, Va. – Vendula Strakova had 14 kills to lead Hampton to a 3-0 conference victory over the Norfolk State volleyball team in the Battle of the Bay on Sunday afternoon at Joseph Echols Hall.
The Pirates hit .310 on the day and improved to 6-0 in the MEAC Northern Division and 11-9 overall. NSU remained winless at 0-19, 0-7 in conference play.

The Spartans scored five straight in the early part of the match, but the Pirates responded with four straight for a 7-6 lead. A 6-1 run a little later gave them a five-point advantage, and Hampton went up by as much as seven before taking a 1-0 lead.
The Spartans tied up the second set at 6-6, and after Hampton won four straight, NSU came back to tie it up again, this time at 11-11. A 7-1 run after that, though, allowed the Pirates to pull away.
Then in the third, Hampton won four straight to start the set, but a kill from sophomore
Tori Tulensru and two service aces by senior
Kylee Thiim sparked a 5-0 run for NSU. Hampton won the next three points, and then runs of 4-1 and 5-1 gave the Pirates a 17-11 lead. A block by Tyler and sophomore
Dominique Parker got the Spartans as close as four the rest of the way.
Darcus also added 12 assists and four digs, while senior
Adriana Ramos added nine digs.
NSU will be home next weekend for a pair of matches, beginning Friday with a contest against Morgan State at 7 p.m. at Joseph Echols Hall.
