NORFOLK, Va. - After dropping its season-opener at home last Friday to Morehead State, the NSU women's basketball team hits the road for its next two contests, starting this Tuesday at in-state ACC opponent Virginia Tech. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va.

Last Time Out
The trio of Eriel McKee, Almesha Jones and Shay Steele combined for 56 points, and visiting Morehead State rode a big second-half performance to pull away from Norfolk State, 83-66, in the season-opener for both teams on Friday night at Echols Hall.

McKee had 20 points and seven rebounds, Jones had 19 points and eight assists and Steele had 17 points and seven boards for the Eagles (1-0), who outscored the Spartans (0-1) by 21 (48-27) in the second half.

Senior Rae Corbo scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting for NSU. Freshman Kayla Roberts and senior Aivah Parham added 11 points apiece. Corbo jumped from 20th to 17th on NSU's all-time scoring list with her 23 points, which give her 1,031 in her Spartan career.

Preseason Predictions
NSU was picked to finish eighth in the preseason MEAC poll of conference head coaches and sports information directors. Senior guard Rae Corbo, who led the team in scoring (12.9 ppg), assists (3.1), steals (1.1) and free-throw percentage (85.2) last season, was voted to the preseason All-MEAC third team.

All-Time Series
Virginia Tech leads the all-time series with NSU, 4-3. The teams have not met since the 1980-81 season, when the Hokies won 73-37 in Blacksburg. The teams met every year from 1976-81, all while NSU was in Division II. The Spartans won the first three meetings, but Tech has won the last four.

NSU vs. The ACC
NSU is 8-14 against teams currently in the ACC. The Spartans have a combined eight wins against in-state foes Virginia and Virginia Tech, but all of those came when the Spartans played at the Division II level. NSU is 0-6 against ACC teams since moving up to Division I in 1997-98, with losses to Pittsburgh (two), U.V.a., Wake Forest, Duke and Miami.

About Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech is 1-1 so far this year, with a 77-69 loss at George Mason last Friday and a 63-41 win over UMES on Sunday. Regan Magarity is averaging 17 points and 8.5 rebounds and Taijah Campbell checks in at 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Hokies, who were picked to finish 12th in the 15-team ACC.
