CNU Holiday Open Results
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –
Romero Hines' victory in the long jump highlighted the efforts of the Norfolk State men's track and field team in its indoor season-opener at the CNU Holiday Open on Saturday.

In his first track meet as a Spartan, Hines recorded a best jump of 23 feet, 1.75 inches. That was one of four top-five finishes for the Spartan men on Saturday. Freshman
Chris Lee just missed an indoor school record in the shot put, placing third (second among collegiate athletes) with a top throw of 52 feet, 4.5 inches. Theo Duncan's school record of 52-7.5 was set in 2010.

Sophomore Michael Smith placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday. After clocking a time of 8.34 to qualified third in the prelims, Smith ran a time of 8.43 seconds in the finals.

NSU's other top-five finish Saturday was turned in by freshman
Allan Frye. Making his Spartan debut, Frye, was fifth in the 400 meters (52.07 seconds).

In other events, sophomore
Desmond Fogg placed sixth in the mile (4:33.44) and sophomore
Willard Ward was eighth in the pole vault (13-5.25).

The Spartans are off for the next month for the semester break. Their next meet is on Jan. 10 at the Penn State Indoor Relays.
