NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team posted a 4-0 win over Hampton on Friday at the Centre Court Racquet Club.
The Spartans improved to 1-2 on the season, while Hampton fell to 2-2 overall.
In doubles play, sophomore Robin Riethmueller and junior Igor Braga teamed up to defeat Advait Kirtane and Aleksandre Davlianidze, 8-1. Senior Kent Austin and sophomore Samuel Lemberger claimed an 8-4 victory over Henry Drakeford and Joshua McQueen.
Sophomore Dzmitry Zyhmantovich competed at the No. 1 singles position and posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kirtane. In the No. 2 spot, Riethmueller defeated Davlianidze, 6-1, 6-1. Closing out the singles competition was senior Peter Ramstromer-Pello. He upended Miguel Suarez, 6-2, 6-4.
The Spartans return to the court on Saturday to face Binghamton. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. at the Centre Court Racquet Club in Newport News, Va.
