The Spartans are looking for their first win of the season after dropping all four contests at the Seahawk Invitational last weekend at UNC Wilmington. NSU came closest to a win in a 5-3 loss to UMBC as the Spartans' rally fell short at the end.
Senior
Morgan Boyd hit 4-for-9 with three runs scored, as she was the only NSU player to come away with an average better than .300. Sophomore
Whitney Williams knocked in four runs for the Spartans. NSU gave up 31 runs but only 16 were earned, as 13 errors in the first two games did in the Spartans.
Yale, Wagner and Fairleigh Dickinson have yet to play this season, while La Salle had its first weekend of action snowed out and has also not played a game so far. Delaware State is the only visiting team to have seen competition this year. The Hornets went 2-2 at the Pirate Snow Classic at East Carolina last weekend, defeating Drexel twice (4-3, 6-2) while also falling to Seton Hall and host East Carolina. Jordan Stamps and Rochelle Sablay each drove in four runs, while Tara Tursellino had both of DSU's wins in the circle.
Caught
Morgan Boyd had swiped 31 straight bases before UMBC catcher Taylor Hall threw her out in last Sunday's matchup. Boyd went 31-of-31 as a junior in 2013 and hadn't been caught stealing since May 5, 2012 against Hampton.
Up Next
NSU will host its second consecutive tournament next weekend. UMBC, Delaware and Monmouth will come down for the Spartan Classic Feb. 28-March 2.
