 BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior Rachel Gordon was the only Spartan to score in double figures as Norfolk State dropped its third straight game of the season in a 63-51 loss to Coppin State on Saturday afternoon at the Physical Education Complex.
 NSU fell to 6-6 in the conference and 10-13 overall, while the Lady Eagles improved to 13-13 on the season and 10-4 in the league.
 Gordon led the Spartans with 13 points. She also tallied seven rebounds. She now has 998 boards for her career and needs only three more to move into first place all-time for career rebounding at NSU.
 Coppin State started the first half on an 13-2 run as Ashle Craig made a layup with 17:01 to go in the half. The Spartans responded with five unanswered points, including a three point play from junior Ebony Brown with 16:12 left before halftime to make the score 13-7.
 The Lady Eagles' Larissa Carter ended NSU's run with 16:08 remaining before halftime to give Coppin State a 15-7 lead. The Spartans stayed within five points, 20-15, at the 10:36 mark after Ebony Brown hit a pair of free throws.
 From there, Carter knocked down another jumper to spark a 9-3 run. Craig closed out the run at the free throw line, making the front end of a one-and-one to give the Lady Eagles a 29-18 advantage. The Spartans closed out the half scoring the last six points. Gordon nailed two jumpers while junior Quineshia Leonard knocked down a pair of free throws to send the Spartans into halftime trailing Coppin State, 29-24.
 The Spartans were the early aggressors in the second half, outscoring the Lady Eagles, 9-8 to draw within four points, 37-33, with 13:21 to go in the game. Coppin State increased its lead to double-digits again at the 6:51 mark on a layup from Janelle Lane in the paint. The Lady Eagles led by as many as 14 points, 54-40, after Bria Harris knocked down a jumper with 5:23 left.
 NSU closed out the game outscoring Coppin State, 11-9. Seven of the last 11 points of the game for the Spartans came from the free throw line. NSU finished the game shooting 67.7 percent (21-of-31) from the line.
 For the game, the Spartans shot 25.4 percent (15-of-59) from the floor and they failed to make a 3-pointer (0-of-9). Freshmen Logan Powell and Koryn Lawrence finished the game with nine and five points each, respectively. Powell also had seven rebounds. Sisters Ebony Brown and freshman Amber Brown tallied five points each. Amber Brown also had a season-high of nine rebounds. Junior Rae Corbo and freshman Dominique Harper each added four points.
 Coppin State shot 28.6 percent (18-of-63) overall, including 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from three. The Lady Eagles were 26-of-38 from the free throw line. Kyra Coleman led all scorers with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Lane and Craig each added 12 points.
 NSU will stay on the road for a game against Howard on Monday. Game time is at 5:30 p.m. at Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C.
