NSU Tops Bethune-Cookman, 5-2

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team closed out the MEAC Southern Division Roundup on Monday morning with a 5-2 victory against Bethune-Cookman.

The Spartans improved to 5-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference play, while B-CU fell to 2-12 overall and 1-2 in the MEAC.

NSU claimed the doubles points at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Dzmitry Zyhmantovich and Peter Ramstromer-Pello defeated Gilbert Rotich and Greg Almeida, 8-4. Robin Riethmueller and Igor Braga teamed up to beat Santiago Lobelo and Diego Garavito, 8-1. The No. 3 spot that featured Samuel Lemberger and Daniel Grauel against Walid Gtari and Alverro Barrera was abandoned at 6-6.

Zyhmantovich won his sixth-straight singles match as he posted 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lobelo in the No. 1 position. Braga competed at the No. 3 spot and defeated Garavito, 6-2, 6-2. In the No. 4 position, Ramstromer-Pello claimed a 6-2, 7-5 win over Rotich. Grauel rounded out the singles wins for the Spartans as he posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Almeida.

NSU's only losses in singles play came at the No. 2 and No. 5 position. Gtari upended Riethmueller, 6-1, 6-2. Barrera claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win over Lemberger.

The Spartans return to action to face NJIT on March 19. The match is set to start at 12 p.m. at the NSU Tennis Courts in Norfolk, Va.
