ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Sophomores Dzmitry Zyhmantovich and Samuel Lemberger picked up wins in singles play as the Norfolk State men's tennis team fell to South Carolina State, 5-2, on Sunday morning at the Bulldog Courts.
NSU fell to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in MEAC play. S.C. State is now 2-4 on the season and 1-0 in the conference.
Zyhmantovich competed at the No. 2 spot, where he defeated Martin Kozba, 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 5 position, Lemberger posted a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Marius Dragoi. Sophomore Robin Riethmueller suffered a 6-2, 7-6(8) loss to Jiri Stiburek at the No. 1 slot. Stanislav Baco upended junior Igor Braga, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0. In the No. 4 position, Soufiane Mouline defeated senior Peter Ramstromer-Pello, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Junior Daniel Grauel closed out things in the No. 6 slot with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Martin Figura.
Riethmueller and Braga teamed up at the No. 2 doubles position. They fell to Figura and Daniel Vala, 8-2. In the No. 3 spot, Grauel and Lemberger lost to Mouline and Stanislav, 8-3. The contest featuring Ramstromer-Pello and Zyhmantovich versus Stiburek and Kozba was abandoned.
NSU will face Florida A&M on March 9 in the MEAC Southern Division Roundup. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. in Florence, S.C.
