NSU Tops Chowan, 9-0

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Norfolk State men's team swept Chowan, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the CU Tennis Complex.

The Spartans improve to 6-5 on the season, while Chowan drops to 11-6 overall.

Dzmitry Zyhmantovich and Peter Ramstromer-Pello competed at the No. 1 doubles spot, where they posted an 8-1 victory over Danilo Galovic and Pedro Aiala. Robin Riethmueller and Igor Braga upended Farid Hajizada and Ivan Doubograev, 8-4. Kent Austin and Daniel Grauel defeated Sasha Kirsanov and Tristan Martin, 8-3.

Zyhmantovich led off in singles play with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(10) victory over Hajizada. He has now won nine singles matches in a row. Riethmueller posted a 6-1, 7-5 win against Aiala. Braga competed at the No. 3 spot, where he defeated Martin, 7-6(5), 6-4. Ramstromer-Pello defeated Kirsanov, 6-1, 6-0. At the No. 5 spot, Grauel upended Doubograev, 6-1, 6-0. Austin closed things out with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Galovic.

NSU returns to action on Friday against Maryland Eastern Shore and Coppin State. Both matches will be played at the Everett Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan. The UMES match begins at 10 a.m., while the CSU contest will start at 1 p.m.
