Complete Match ResultsCAYCE, S.C. – The MEAC south No. 2 seed, Norfolk State, opened the 2014 MEAC Men's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 win against the MEAC north No. 3 seed, Coppin State, on Thursday afternoon at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
NSU (13-6) will play the MEAC south No. 4 seed, Bethune-Cookman, in the semifinals on Friday. This is the fourth straight year that the Spartans have made it to the semifinals.
The Spartans claimed the doubles point at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot.
Dzmitry Zyhmantovich, the MEAC Player of the Year, teamed up with
Peter Ramstromer-Pello, where they defeated Daniel Nino and Oleksiy Krylchuk, 8-2.
Robin Riethmueller and
Igor Braga posted an 8-0 win against Roderick Peyton and Reginald Robinson. The last doubles match was abandoned after NSU clinched the point.
NSU continued to dominate the Eagles in singles play. Braga competed at the No. 4 position, where he claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Roderick Peyton. In the No. 5 slot, Ramstromer-Pello defeated Patrick Thomas, 6-1, 6-0. Rounding out the wins for NSU was
Daniel Grauel. He upended Tre'vonne Peyton in the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-0. The top three singles matches were unfinished because the Spartans had already won.
Men's semifinal action begins at 11 a.m. on Friday.
