NORFOLK, Va.
– Administrators within the Norfolk State athletics department as well as three assistant coaches with the women's basketball program accepted and completed the #Chillin4Charity challenge that has been sweeping through college athletics.

The coaches and administrators took part in what is officially known as the Cold Water Challenge on Wednesday morning at Dick Price Stadium. The challenge, in conjunction with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, aims to raise money for the organization to support cancer research.

As part of the movement, coaches and administrators challenge colleagues from other schools to get doused with an ice-cold bucket of water, all in the name of raising money for cancer research. Those that accept the challenge and get a quick ice bath can then challenge others to keep the movement going. Those that don't accept and are unwilling to get doused with water must donate a certain amount to the cancer fund.

NSU athletics collected more than $100 just on Wednesday morning alone, with donations still being collected throughout the week at the main athletics office in Joseph Echols Hall. NSU will also unofficially collect money from those who don't accept the challenge put on by the Spartans and who donate directly to the Kay Yow fund.

Donations can also be made at www.kayyow.com for those who want to support the cause. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund has raised more than $8 million since it was founded on Dec. 3, 2007. It is named for former North Carolina State women's basketball coach Kay Yow, who passed away from breast cancer in early 2009.

The #Chillin4Charity movement was begun by women's basketball coaches at the University of Arizona.
