Box Score HAMPTON, Va. – The Norfolk State volleyball team fell in its opening conference match of the year on Friday evening, 3-0 to Hampton at HU's Holland Hall
The Pirates took the match in a sweep by scores of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-16. The loss dropped NSU's record to 0-13 overall and 0-1 in the MEAC.
The duo of Vendula Strakova and Sonja Maksimovic combined for 26 kills for Hampton (6-8, 1-0 MEAC), which committed just six attack errors and hit .421 on the night.

Jessica Johnson led the Spartans with nine kills, while freshman
Clarke Tyler added eight.
The Spartans had their best stretch in the middle of the second set, using a 6-1 run to come back from a 14-7 deficit. Sophomore
Dominique Parker had a pair of blocks, and Tyler capped the run with a service ace to make it 15-13 in favor of Hampton. NSU, though, got no closer than three points the rest of the set.
NSU had the early lead in the third set, but the Pirates went on an 8-2 run for a four-point lead. They pulled ahead by as much as nine before taking the match win. The Spartans got as close as four at 13-9 midway through the first set, but Pirate runs of 5-0 and 4-0 doomed NSU after that.
The Spartans hit .103 for the match. Junior
Angie Darcus had six kills on 12 swings.
NSU will head to Coppin State on Sunday for a 3 p.m. contest.
