NORFOLK, Va. -
The Norfolk State women's basketball team (4-11, 3-1 MEAC) is seeking its first 4-1 start to MEAC play since 2001-02 when the Spartans host North Carolina Central (3-13, 1-3) at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Echols Hall. NSU, which enters the game in second place in the MEAC, is also looking for its first three-game winning streak of the season.

Media Coverage
The game will be broadcast live on WNSB Hot 91.1 FM (Play-by-Play: Ross Gordon; Color: Terrell Ducre'). For live video and audio links, see the top of the page.

Last Time Out
Rae Corbo scored 29 points and Norfolk State's stifling defense helped the Spartans improve to 3-1 in MEAC play with a 53-40 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Monday night at Moore Gymnasium.

NSU is now on a two-game winning streak for the first time this season and has started 3-1 in MEAC competition for the second straight year. The Spartans (4-11) did it thanks to Corbo, who tallied the second-highest scoring output of her career, and a defense which allowed season lows of 40 points and 23.8 percent shooting.

The 40 points B-CU scored are tied for the fewest NSU has ever allowed in a MEAC game. The Wildcats also held the previous low mark from a 67-40 loss to the Spartans on March 2, 2013.

Corbo shot 8-of-19 from the floor and 13-of-14 from the free-throw line. Her 13 made free throws are the fifth-most in a game in school history.

NSU finished the half on a 10-2 run to take a 24-16 lead into the locker room. B-CU never threatened NSU in the second half.

Corbo scored 18 of her 29 points in the second half, shooting 5-of-10 from the floor and making all eight of her free throws after halftime. Kayla Roberts added six points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots on the night. Nia Roberts snared 11 rebounds and Ebony Brown had a career-high eight off the bench as NSU enjoyed a 51-42 edge on the boards.

Scouting NCCU
The Eagles have lost 10 of their last 11 games after an 82-61 defeat against Savannah State on Monday night in Durham, N.C. NCCU got 19 points and seven rebounds from leading scorer Racquel Davis, but SSU shot 53.6 percent in the victory.

Prior to the loss to SSU, the Eagles snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 56-54 overtime win over South Carolina State last Saturday. Davis leads the Eagles with 14.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, and Morgan Jones averages 9.1 points per game.

NCCU was tabbed to finish 10th in the MEAC in the preseason poll.

All-Time Series vs. NCCU
The Spartans are 17-6 all-time against N.C. Central, but the Eagles have won two straight and four of five from NSU since the 2007-08 season. NCCU won the only meeting last season, 63-53, in Norfolk on March 6, 2014.

Road Trip Done Right
The Spartans began the road portion of their 2014-15 MEAC slate in style with two double-digit wins against the conference's Florida-based schools in the last week. Last
weekend marked the fi rst time since 1999-2000 that NSU swept FAMU and Bethune-Cookman in the same road trip. More on the two wins:
• The Spartans held a +36 rebounding edge in the two games, including a season-high +27 (54-27) in the win at Florida A&M.
• After holding the Rattlers to the worst scoring (50) and shooting (29 percent) nights for an NSU opponent this year, NSU repeated the feat Monday at B-CU, holding B-CU to 40 points and 23.8 percent shooting.
• The 40 points B-CU scored are tied for the fewest ever by a MEAC opponent against the Spartans (B-CU also had 40 in a 67-40 loss to NSU in 2013).
• NSU also had season highs in assists (18) and fi eld goals made (26) at FAMU.
