NORFOLK, Va. – Winners of a season-high three straight games, the Norfolk State women's basketball team (5-11, 4-1 MEAC) looks to keep its momentum going heading into a key home game Monday against North Carolina A&T (9-9, 2-3). Tip-off is at 6 p.m. at Echols Hall.

Last Time Out
Senior guard Rae Corbo scored 29 points for the second game in a row, leading Norfolk State to its third straight win with a convincing 82-58 victory over North Carolina Central on Saturday evening at Echols Hall.

The win puts the Spartans at 5-11 overall, 4-1 in the MEAC heading into Monday's game with North Carolina A&T. The 4-1 MEAC start is the Spartans' best since 2001-02, when NSU won the MEAC title.

Corbo hit 11-of-20 from the floor, 3-of-4 from 3-point range and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Freshman forward Kayla Roberts added 18 points and five rebounds, sophomore guard Koryn Lawrence chipped in with 12 points and sophomore forward Nia Roberts had a game-high 13 rebounds.

NCCU held leads at 2-0 and 4-2, but it was all NSU after that. Corbo had five points in a 9-0 Spartan burst that gave NSU the 11-4 lead just three and a half minutes into the game. The Spartans slowly widened the margin over the course of the first half thanks to 53 percent shooting in the opening stanza. Freshman forward Io Chaney hit 1-of-2 from the charity stripe to give the Spartans their biggest lead of the period, 38-22, heading into the locker room.

NSU led by at least 13 for the entire second half and won by 24, its most lopsided win of the year and biggest against a MEAC team since a 67-40 win over Bethune-Cookman in March of 2013.

Scouting the Aggies
The Aggies were picked to win the MEAC in the preseason poll of head coaches and sports information directors. They have struggled as of late, losing two of three and five of their last seven. The most recent set-back was a 54-48 loss at Hampton on Saturday. Aprill McRae leads N.C. A&T with 10.0 points per game, while Eboni Ross (8.8), Debbie Smith (8.6) and Christina Carter (8.4) all average at least 8.0 per game.

While they have struggled offensively, N.C. A&T has excelled defensively, allowing just 56.6 points per game while forcing their opponents into 21.3 turnovers per game.

All-Time Series
North Carolina A&T holds a 16-15 all-time series edge against NSU. The Aggies have won 12 of the last 13 series meetings, with NSU's only win being a 54-51 victory on March 1, 2012.

Corbo Moves up the Charts
Senior guard Rae Corbo, the MEAC's leading scorer at 21.4 points per game, moved into seventh on NSU's all-time scoring list with her 29-point effort in Saturday's win over North Carolina Central. She now has 1,351 points and passed Beverly Davis (1,331) Saturday. Corbo began the season in 20th place on the scoring charts.

At Stake
The Spartans could achieve two more notable feats with a win Monday over North Carolina A&T. A win over the Aggies would move NSU to 5-1 in the MEAC. The Spartans have won five of their first six MEAC games in a season just once before, in the 1999-2000 season.

Also, a win over the Aggies would be NSU's fourth straight win. The program's last four-game winning streak came in 2004-05.

NSU has not only won three straight MEAC games, but has won each by double digits. No Spartan team has won three MEAC games in a row by double digits since the MEAC championship season of 2001-02.
