WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – In a mid-week matchup of regional foes, William & Mary came out on top over the Norfolk State men's tennis team, 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
The Tribe won each of the five contested singles match in straight sets and dropped just two games in doubles to improve to 5-2 on the year. NSU dropped to 1-5.
Senior
Pascal Domnik dropped his first match of the spring season, as he fell to Christian Cargill by a 7-5, 6-2 score at No. 1 singles. At the third singles position, senior
Daniel Grauel lost a close first set, 6-4, to Lars de Boer before his Tribe opponent won the second set as well, 6-1.
Competing at No. 2 singles, senior
Igor Braga was upended by Will Juggins, 6-3, 6-1. Senior
Alex Killam came up on the wrong side of a 6-1, 6-1 score to Lugman Ebrahim at the fifth singles slot, while junior
Terey Hackney was swept by Alec Miller at the fourth position, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Domnik and Grauel lost by a 6-2 score to the William & Mary tandem of Cargill and Juggins at the top spot in the lineup. De Boer and Aaron Chaffee, at No. 2 doubles, downed Braga and Killam, 6-0.
The Tribe also won No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default due to NSU's short-handed lineup.
The Spartans will play at Charlotte on Feb. 7 at 2:30 p.m. in their next match.
