Senior
Angie Darcus had another big night for the Spartans, tallying 16 kills on a .394 attack percentage with six digs. She now has 54 total kills during the last three matches.
She led a Spartan attack that hit .216 with 41 kills against the Eagles. CSU had 42 kills while hitting .266 thanks to four less errors. The Eagles also had a 42-34 edge in digs, although the Spartans had more blocks (6.0-3.0) for the second straight match and the fourth time this season.
Darcus and senior
Janay Frazier combined for nine kills in the first set, which started off with NSU up 4-2 after two service aces by junior
Dominique Parker and a kill by Frazier. The Eagles started to score two points for every one by NSU, which finally called timeout down 12-9. Thanks in part to a 6-1 run, CSU went up by as much as seven at 19-12 before NSU came back.
Darcus had two more kills to get NSU going, and then the Spartans erased a 22-15 deficit by outscoring the Eagles 8-2 near the end of the set. Frazier had two kills and a service ace during that time, but after getting to 24-23, an error on the Spartans gave CSU the opening set.
Down 5-2 in the second, Norfolk State scored five straight for a 7-5 lead. Frazier and sophomore
Clarke Tyler had a block at the end of that run, as they were the only two Spartan players to record a block on the night. The Eagles scored five straight for a three-point lead, but a kill and block by Frazier a little later tied it up at 15-15.
Tyler's kill made it 19-18 in favor of the Eagles, and then down 24-20 NSU scored three straight on a kill by Darcus and two errors from the Eagles. But like the first set, CSU won the second thanks to an error on the Spartans.
Darcus had seven kills in the third set, which began with NSU down 4-2 and then up by an 8-7 score on a block by Tyler and an Eagle error. The Spartans used both timeouts after back-to-back plays, but CSU opened up an 18-13 lead after an 8-2 run. Three errors on the Eagles got the Spartans to within 18-16, and then again NSU found itself down 24-20. An error on CSU and kills by senior
Darcy Moore and Tyler cut the Eagle advantage to 24-23, but Cindy Okpegbue added one last kill to finish the sweep.
Okpegbue led CSU on the night with 18 kills on a .350 attack percentage.
Tyler had eight kills and hit .273 in the match with four blocks. Frazier had six kills and three blocks, while junior
Alex Irizarry led NSU with eight digs. Moore added 29 assists and seven digs with four kills as well.
NSU will face Morgan State on Sunday at 3 p.m. at MSU's Hill Field House.
