NCCU Takes 2 from NSU in Tuesday Matinee

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central's offense came alive in game 1, and despite a solid pitching performance from NSU in game 2, the Eagles were able to come away with a sweep of the Norfolk State softball team on Tuesday afternoon.

NCCU pounded out 17 hits in the first contest, a 10-2 win in six innings. Freshman pitcher Marissa Marrero allowed just one unearned run, but the Spartans offense was shutout in a 1-0 Eagle victory in the nightcap at Parkwood Field.

Marrero helped NSU attempt to rebound after a rough first game. She scattered seven hits over six innings of work in game 2. An error on the Spartans following a Markel Wylie single in the fifth inning allowed the only run of the game to score.

Dominique Wilson (2-3) gave up five hits in seven innings to earn the victory for North Carolina Central (7-5). Freshman Megan Przeslawski had two hits to lead the Spartans (0-6).

Five of the top six batters in the Eagle lineup had at least two hits in the first game. Wilson and Kayle Brueck each went 3-for-4, while Wylie and Emerie Germ each drove in a pair of runs.

Przeslawski hit an RBI double in the first inning before Brueck's RBI single in the bottom of the frame tied it up at 1-1. The Eagles scored two more in the fourth and then broke the game open with a five-run fifth. Germ hit a two-run single after the Eagles hit three solo homers earlier in the inning.

Przeslawski, who batted 4-for-6 on the day, scored in the sixth on junior Hannah Haustein's single to center. NCCU plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game on the eight-run rule.

NSU will host its first games of the year on Thursday with a doubleheader against George Washington at 1 p.m. at the NSU Softball Field.
