BALTIMORE, Md. – Redshirt freshman
Allan Frye earned his first collegiate victory in the 400 meter hurdles on Saturday to highlight the Spartan men's track and field team's weekend at the Morgan State Legacy Meet.
Â
Frye ran his collegiate-best time of 52.64 seconds to finish atop the field of 34 competitors. That topped his previous best of 53.27 from the Colonial Relays earlier in the month.
Â
Frye's win was the only one for the Spartans at the meet, but NSU had several other strong performances. Junior sprinter
Steve Coles set a new PR in the 400 meters for the second straight week. He placed second but was the top collegiate finisher in a time of 47.20 seconds.
Â
Sophomore
Desmond Fogg ran a season-best time of 4 minutes, 6.06 seconds to place sixth in the men's 1,500 meters. Redshirt freshman
David Kibet was also sixth in his race, the 5,000 meters, in a time of 16:23.09.
Â
In field events, freshman
Joseph Boyd was runner-up in the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches). The Spartans also fared well in the pole vault, where both sophomore
Willard Ward and freshman
Shaw Barfield set new PRs. Ward was third with a top height of 14-2, good for third place, while Barfield placed fourth with a clearance of 13-8.25.
Romero Hines and
Clifton Thompson also took top-five finishes in their field events. Hines took fourth in the long jump (22-9) and Thompson was fifth in the discus (149-10).
