127 Student-Athletes Earn Spot on AD’s Honor Roll

Tennis players Krystal Scott and Igor Braga, the 2015 NSU Female and Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year, respectively, were two of NSU's 127 student-athletes on the AD's Honor Roll for spring 2015
NORFOLK, Va. – A total of 127 Norfolk State student-athletes earned a place on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the spring 2015 semester, the athletics department announced today.

To make the honor roll, student-athletes must achieve a 3.0 grade-point average for the semester. This year's spring total is one more than the final tally for the fall 2014 semester.

"I am so incredibly proud of our student-athletes for another successful semester on the academic side," said NSU Assistant AD for Academic Support Jacqueline Nicholson. "I applaud their hard work, as well as the efforts of our fine academic support staff, in accomplishing all that we did this year in the classroom."

Altogether, NSU student-athletes had a collective 2.93 GPA for the spring, the highest in recorded history, with 45 percent of all student-athletes named to the honor roll. Ten of the 15 sports teams set program GPA records in the spring, while 12 of the 15 teams saw an increase in their collective GPAs from last spring.

Football led the way for the spring 2015 semester with a total of 28 student-athletes on the honor roll, with baseball tallying 17 and women's track and field finishing with 14. The other athletic programs with players on the honor roll included men's track & field (13), volleyball (12), softball (12), women's basketball (8), bowling (7), men's tennis (7), women's tennis (6) and men's basketball (3).

Men's tennis led the way with seven of this year's eight active players earning AD's Honor Roll, while women's tennis had six of seven players also honored. The men's team also had a collective 3.51 GPA for the semester, while the women's tennis team posted a 3.38 GPA, the highest among teams within their respective genders.

Bowling (7 of 9), softball (12 of 17), volleyball (11 of 17), women's track and field (14 of 25) and women's basketball (7 of 14) also had at least 50 percent of this year's active roster reach the 3.0 GPA threshold.

A total of 11 student-athletes also earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester as well. The list included Ian Horne (baseball), Courtney Brown (bowling), Seana Moriarty and Clara Quinones (softball), Tyler Clark (football), Peter Ramstromer-Pello (men's tennis), Andrea Macchiavello and Krystal Scott (women's tennis), De'Von Booker (men's track and field), Jasmin Flowers (volleyball) and Io Chaney (women's basketball).
