NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State volleyball team was picked to finish sixth in the MEAC Northern Division, as the 2015 preseason all-conference team and predicted order of finish were released by the conference office on Friday afternoon.
The Spartans received 61 points in the preseason voting and were selected in the same position as they finished the 2014 regular season.
Howard earned 18 of the 26 first place votes and 170 points to finish first in the Northern Division. Coppin State just edged out Hampton for second, finishing with 132 points and two first-place votes. Hampton, the defending league champion, tallied four first-place votes and 129 points in the preseason voting.
Morgan State (104 points) and Maryland Eastern Shore (100 points, 2 first-place votes) ended up fourth and fifth, respectively, while Delaware State came in seventh behind NSU with 32 points.
Florida A&M grabbed 22 out of a possible 26 first-place votes to arrive at No. 1 in the South with 152 points. Rounding out the Southern Division standings were No. 2 Bethune-Cookman (123 points, two first-place votes), No. 3 North Carolina A&T (94 points), No. 4 North Carolina Central (88 points, 2 first-place votes), No. 5 South Carolina State (56 points) and No. 6 Savannah State (33 points).
Florida A&M, Coppin State and Bethune-Cookman each had two players on the seven-player preseason All-MEAC team. FAMU's Pamela Soriano earned the Preseason Player of the Year award.
Voting was done by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
