Both teams are looking to bounce back from losses on Saturday.
Scouting NSU: The Spartans made a run in the second half, but fell short against Florida A&M on Saturday, 83-67, at Echols Hall. The Lady Rattlers hit nine 3-pointers, six by Kenya Dixon (22 points), and made 50 percent of their field goal attempts. NSU was outscored 24-12 in the second quarter and trailed 41-24 at the break. NSU used a 13-0 run early in the third quarter to cut its deficit to six, but the Spartans couldn't overcome the hot-shooting Lady Rattlers.
Kayla Roberts scored 15 points and added 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
Siobhan Beslow also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and
Kiara Phillips also contributed 14 points. NSU shot 38 percent from the floor.
Scouting BCU: The visiting Lady Wildcats committed 22 turnovers and were held to 32 percent shooting in a 60-45 loss on Saturday at Hampton. The defeat was BCU's first in MEAC play this year.
Kaylah Lupoe had 16 points and Malia Tate-DeFreitas posted a triple-double of 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for the Lady Pirates. Kendra Cooper led BCU with 13 points and Alea Godfrey and Kailyn Williams added 12 apiece for the Lady Wildcats, who were outscored 25-6 in the second period.
Cooper paces BCU with 16.2 points per game this year. Williams chips in 10.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. Cooper is third in the MEAC in scoring and second in 3-pointers made (40). Williams is first in blocks.
Series History: Norfolk State leads what has been a competitive all-time series with Bethune-Cookman by a 15-13 margin. The Spartans won last year's meeting, 53-40, on Jan. 12, 2015 in Daytona Beach behind
Rae Corbo's 29 points. NSU has won four straight over the Lady Wildcats.
Double Your Pleasure: For the second time this season, NSU had two players both notch a double-double in the same game on Saturday. And for the second time this year, it was
Kayla Roberts (15 points, 10 rebounds) and
Siobhan Beslow (14-11) who achieved the feat together. The pair also did the trick against Oakland on Nov. 23 (Roberts 10-14, Beslow 18-12). Beslow currently leads the MEAC with six double-doubles this year, with Roberts third in the conference with four. The Spartans have more double-doubles as a team (10) than any other MEAC team.
