Scouting NSU: The Spartans had their chance in both games, but lost a pair of contests in the Monmouth Hawk Holiday Classic over the holiday break. NSU fell to La Salle 67-59 on Dec. 29, and 59-55 to St. Francis Brooklyn in the consolation game on Dec. 30 to fall to 0-11 on the season.
Siobhan Beslow was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 15 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in the tourney.
Kayla Roberts scored a team-high 14 points in the loss to La Salle, and Beslow tied her career best with 18 in the loss to St. Francis.
Beslow leads NSU in both scoring (11.5) and rebounding (9.3) this year, with Roberts close behind (10.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg).
Scouting CSU: The Lady Eagles put an end to a six-game losing streak by beating Lafayette 64-57 in the second game of the U.Va. Cavalier Classic on Dec. 29. The win improved CSU to 3-9 on the season. Genesis Lucas scored 15 points to lead four Lady Eagles in double figures. CSU shot just 34 percent from the floor, but forced Lafayette into 27 turnovers.
Janelle Lane leads CSU in scoring, at 10.6 points per game. Five other Lady Eagles average at least 8.0 points per outing. The Lady Eagles also have wins over Towson and Mt. St. Mary's this year, teams that CSU beat in succession in November before dropping six games in a row prior to the Lafayette victory.
Beslow Named All-Tournament: Forward
Siobhan Beslow turned two strong performances in the Monmouth Hawk Holiday Classic into a spot on the all-tournament team. Beslow notched 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in the loss to her former team, La Salle. In the second game of the tourney, Beslow tied her career high with 18 points while also grabbing a team-best 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the year against St. Francis Brooklyn. Beslow also blocked a career-high four shots and had two steals in that game.

Promising Start for Hannah: NSU freshman guard
Yazmen Hannah had the reputation of being a good scorer as a high school player in North Carolina, and she has lived up to that expectation so far as a freshman. Hannah is third on the team in scoring at 9.9 points per game, and she has been nothing if not consistent. Hannah has scored in double figures in seven of NSU's 11 games and has scored nine in two others.Â
Hannah has also emerged as NSU's top 3-point threat. She's made 15 of the Spartans' 26 treys and is also second on the team in both assists (19) and steals (17) this year.
