1. The Spartans play the first of two straight ESPNU televised games this Thursday when they face defending MEAC co-champion and 2015 Celebration Bowl champion North Carolina A&T in Greensboro.
2. NSU enters the game on a four-game losing streak following a 33-28 loss to Howard last Saturday. The Spartans led 21-6 after one quarter but yielded 27 unanswered points and were unable to rally in the closing minutes.
3. Quarterback
Greg Hankerson accounted for all four NSU touchdowns. He rushed for two scores and also passed for two touchdowns, a 64-yarder to
Marcus Taylor and a 59-yarder to
George Wahee, both of which occurred in the first quarter.
4. Hankerson passed for a career-high 366 yards on 25-of-35 completions, his first career 300-yard game.
5. North Carolina A&T is playing the second of its three consecutive Thursday night televised games this week. The Aggies dispatched of Hampton, 31-9, last Thursday to improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the MEAC this year.
6. Defending MEAC Offensive Player of the Year Tarik Cohen rushed 26 times for 256 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Hampton. The Aggies won despite surrendering 388 passing yards to the Pirates.
7. The Aggies' only loss this season came by a 58-21 score at the hands of FBS member Tulsa of the American Athletic Conference three weeks ago.
8. N.C. A&T has the MEAC's only non-conference Division I win this year so far, a 39-36 overtime win at FBS institution Kent State of the Mid-American Conference on Sept. 10.
9. The Aggies, who tied for first in the MEAC a season ago, represented the MEAC in the inaugural Celebration Bowl last December, where they came away with a 41-34 over SWAC champion Alcorn State.
10. The series between the teams has been dominated by North Carolina A&T. The Aggies have won 28 of the 39 meetings between the two teams. The schools have, however, split the last four meetings on the field. N.C. A&T won 27-3 last season and 30-9 in 2012. The teams did not meet in 2013-14. The Spartans won in both 2010 and 2011, but the wins were later vacated.
