Box Score NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State struggled to a season-low 24 percent shooting and dropped its third straight game, 56-47, to Coppin State on Monday night at Echols Hall.
Omaah Tayong led Coppin State (11-15, 8-6 MEAC) with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Alexys Long scored eight points apiece to pace the Spartans (2-22, 2-12).
The Spartans got off to a slow start, shooting just 4-of-18 (22 percent) and getting outscored 20-11 in the opening quarter. NSU remained within striking distance of the Lady Eagles, though, by holding CSU to just a pair of field goals in the second quarter. CSU shot just 15 percent in a second quarter in which it scored just eight points.
Trailing by seven entering the final period, the Spartans got as close as five, 52-47, after a 3-pointer by Long with 2:53 remaining. But those were the Spartans' final points. Jordan Swails hit two free throws to extend CSU's lead to seven and Amber Griffin sealed the game with a jumper with 1:20 left, pushing the advantage to nine. NSU missed its final four field goal attempts and had two turnovers after Long's final basket.
NSU hit just 18-of-74 from the field, 2-of-19 from 3-point range (10.5 percent), and 9-of-19 (47 percent) from the free-throw line.
Janelle Lane scored 11 points and Keena Samuels 10 for CSU.
Shayla Tanner grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds for the Spartans and blocked three shots.
NSU has a week off before its next game, a 6 p.m. contest against Howard on Monday, Feb. 29.
