ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Ball State won every singles match in straight sets and won comfortably in two of the three doubles matches to earn a 7-0 win over the Norfolk State women's tennis team on Thursday afternoon at Sanlando Park.
NSU competed in its second match in as many days in Florida during spring break week. Junior
Liza Gordeeva had the strongest match for NSU in singles, while the senior duo of
Andrea Macchiavello and
Mafalda Lhorca nearly pulled out a win in doubles.
At the No. 2 position, the Spartan duo took BSU's Peyton Gollhofer and Audrey Berger to a tiebreaker. There, the Ball State tandem won by a 7-4 margin to win the match, 6-5.
Gordeeva, meanwhile, lost her first set to Berger by a 6-0 score at No. 3 singles before forcing a tiebreaker in the second set. Berger, though, earned a 7-5 win there to take the second set, 7-6.
Ball State won its eighth in a row to improve to 11-3 overall. NSU dropped to 2-6.

Marta Gomar competed at No. 3 doubles, where they fell 6-2 to Carmen Blanco and Bethany Moore. At the top spot, junior
Ana Popovic and sophomore
Dajana Cvjetkovic fell to Julia Sbircea and Toni Ormond, 6-1.
Blanco swept Gomar at No. 2 singles, 6-0 and 6-0, while Gollhofer topped Cvjetkovic at the top spot in the lineup, 6-3 and 6-1. Sbircea also earned a win at the fifth slot, 6-1 and 6-2 over Popovic.
In the other two matches, Ormond defeated Macchiavello at the No. 4 position, 6-1 and 6-4. The scores were reversed at No. 6 singles, were Lhorca dropped a decision to Isabelle Dohanics, 6-5 and 6-1.
The Spartans will play two more matches before heading home, with South Dakota State up next on Friday at noon.
