NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central lost all three doubles matches but rebounded to win four of the six singles matches to hand the Norfolk State women's tennis team a 4-3 loss on Sunday morning at the NSU Tennis Complex.

The Spartans' two seniors,
Andrea Macchiavello and
Mafalda Lhorca, won their singles and doubles matches on a day when NSU honored the former on its official 2016 Senior Day. The Eagles, though, came away with the win to improve to 5-12 while dropping NSU to 9-10 in its second-to-last contest of the regular season.
Â
Macchiavello and Lhorca first won in doubles at the No. 2 position, defeating Mia Ramic and Jasmine Gabriel by a 7-5 margin. The Spartans also won the other two matches by the same 7-5 scores.

Junior
Ana Popovic and sophomore
Dajana Cvjetkovic knocked off Aissa Muamba and Jamie Rogers at the top spot in the lineup, while junior

Â
Macchiavello posted a victory at No. 3 singles over Gabriel, 6-3 and 6-4. At the sixth slot, Lhorca handed Jeremic a 6-4, 6-1 loss.

Lhorca was honored last year on Senior Day before deciding to return for a post-grad semester this spring and her last year of eligibility.
Â
The Eagles, a member of the MEAC Southern Division, won the other four matches, including the top two spots. Muamba posted a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Cvjetkovic at the top slot, while Ramic earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Gordeeva at No. 2 singles.
