Short Newest Spartan to Compete Overseas

NORFOLK, Va. – Former Spartan guard Jeff Short became the most recent Norfolk State men's basketball player to sign a contract to play overseas. After finishing his career at NSU in 2016, Short will compete for Arcos Albacete Basket in Spain this upcoming season.

He was a two-time first-team All-MEAC honoree at NSU, finishing with 1,156 points in just two seasons with the Spartans. Short also earned first-team NABC All-District 15 honors twice and was voted to the MEAC All-Tournament Team in 2016 after leading the Spartans to the semifinals. He ended his career second all-time at NSU in free throw percentage (.821) and averaged 17.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists during his two-year stint with the Spartans.

Short's new team, Arcos Albacete, will enter its first season in the LEB Silver league in Spain this year after competing in the EBA last year. There, the team finished first in the Group B regular season standings at 21-5 and won the Stage 4 championship. LEB Silver is the third level in the Spanish basketball system. Arcos' season starts on Oct. 1.

Short will become the most recent Norfolk State player to play overseas and one of more than a handful who could compete again this year.

The longest tenured of those former Spartans is guard Michael Deloach, who will enter his seventh season as a pro in 2016-17. He will compete for Eurobasket Roma in the Italian Serie A2 league this year. Last year he was named All-Italian Serie A2 second-team after averaging 18.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists for Orasi Ravenna. Serie A2 is the second level in the Italian basketball system.

Former players Pendarvis Williams (Italy), Chris McEachin and Aleek Pauline (France), Brandon Goode (Estonia), Anell Alexis (Panama) and Jamel Fuentes (Puerto Rico) all competed overseas as well last year.

More announcements are expected in the future relative to former Spartan players competing professionally this year.
