Towson Shuts Out NSU Twice by Identical 8-0 Scores

NORFOLK, Va. – Towson had game-ending hits in the bottom of the fifth innings in both sides of a doubleheader as the Tigers defeated the Norfolk State softball team by identical 8-0 scores on Tuesday afternoon at the Tiger Softball Stadium.

Towson starter Megan Dejter allowed just one hit and struck out three in five innings in the first game, and a pair of Tiger pitchers struck out six and gave up four hits in all five innings in game 2.

The losses dropped NSU to 9-18 overall on the season. Towson improved to 15-20.

The second contest marked the sixth straight game the Spartans have been shut out. NSU has been held scoreless for 37 straight innings during that span. Both now stand as school records.

The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning and three in the fifth in game 1 to end it on the eight-run rule. Brook Miko hit a three-run homer in the first inning and went 2-for-2 with four RBI to lead the way. Holiday Cahill hit a two-run homer in the fifth as well.

Shelby Stracher's two-run double highlighted a four-run first inning for the Tigers in game 2. Daria Edwards and Nicole Stockinger hit back-to-back solo homers in the third, and all three players finished with two RBI each.

Stockinger and Edwards each had four hits on the afternoon.

Sophomore Hunter Halford went 2-for-4 during the course of the two games, accounting for two of NSU's five total hits.

The Spartans return to MEAC play this Friday and Saturday when they host Howard for a three-game series. Game 1 is set for noon on Friday, with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. Saturday will also be Senior Day for four Spartan seniors.
