Narvaez, Brown Lead Eagles in 8-1 Win over NSU

BALTIMORE, Md. – Megan Narvaez and Cayla Brown each drove in three runs to lead Coppin State to an 8-1 win over the Norfolk State softball team on Wednesday afternoon in a MEAC contest at the CSU Softball Field.

Brown hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and Narvaez hit a bases-clearing double in a five-run fourth that broke the game open. The Eagles added one more run in the sixth for the final margin.

CSU starter Madison Didion held the Spartans to just three hits and one unearned run with five strikeouts in all seven innings.

Coppin State moved into a tie with NSU in the standings at 4-9 in the MEAC. CSU improved to 7-38 overall while the Spartans fell to 11-20.

The three-game series, which concludes on Thursday, was originally scheduled for March 18-19 but was pushed back due to weather.

Brown's two-run homer in the first started the scoring for Coppin State. The Spartans got a run back in the third on junior Jaylene Pryor's double, her second of the game. NSU, though, left runners on second and third after a pair of infield popups closed out the frame.

The Eagles took advantage in the fourth when Narvaez hit a three-run double. An RBI single and sacrifice fly later in the inning made it 7-1, and another sac fly in the sixth completed the scoring for CSU.

Pryor had two of NSU's three hits. Brown went 3-for-4 for CSU in addition to driving in three runs. The Eagles finished with 10 hits on the afternoon.

The two squads play a pair of games on Thursday beginning at noon before NSU heads to Hampton on Saturday for the last MEAC series of the year.
