Eichelberger Named MEAC Rookie of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State volleyball freshman outside hitter Taylor Eichelberger was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon when the conference office announced its weekly honors.
 
Eichelberger, a native of Roanoke, Va., led NSU over the weekend with 28 kills in three matches during the Red Flash Classic at Saint Francis (Pa.). She averaged 2.80 kills per set while hitting .198. She also added six digs and five blocks total in contests against Morehead State, Saint Francis and Bucknell.
 
On the season, Eichelberger has a team-high 2.38 kills per set and is hitting .163 with 14 total digs and 11 blocks. She is one of five players on the team to appear in every set this season. She earned the first weekly award for the NSU program this season.
 
NSU (2-8) will play its first home matches of the year this weekend in the MEAC North-South Challenge, beginning first with a 7 p.m. contest on Friday against Savannah State at Gill Gymnasium. NSU will also play South Carolina State and North Carolina A&T on Saturday at the Tidewater Volleyball Center.
