NORFOLK, Va. – Three members of the Norfolk State women's tennis team competed in the Virginia Beach Clay Court Championships over the weekend at the Cape Henry Racket Club.
In the doubles draw,
Bruna Goncalves and
Paula Fortuno reached the semifinals with a 4-1, 4-2 win against Allison Wandling and Darby Hunt. The pair of Spartans then withdrew from their semifinal bout.
In singles competition, newcomer
Joyce Fields fell to Yulia Kapitanova of Hampton, 4-1, 4-0 in the round of 16. Fortuno also exited in the round of 16 following a 0-4, 4-2, 1-0 (10) defeat to Natalie Ivanov.
