NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State freshman guard
C.J. Kelly was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week on Wednesday when the conference office announced its weekly men's basketball awards.
Kelly averaged 9.0 points in two games last weekend at the Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso, Texas. He also finished with four total rebounds, three blocks and two assists while shooting 4-of-9 overall and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
He scored 10 points with three blocks, two rebounds, one assist and one steal in a 75-62 win over host UTEP last Friday. He made 2-of-3 from the 3-point line and had his third 10-point game of the season.
He also tallied eight points, two rebounds and one assist while shooting 6-of-7 from the free throw line on Saturday in a loss to East Tennessee State in the championship game.
On the year, Kelly is averaging 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game while shooting 47 percent overall.
It marked the first rookie of the week award for NSU this year and the third weekly award the team has collected so far.
The Spartans will return to the court on Saturday when they head to Niagara for a 3 p.m. contest.
