LEXINGTON, Va. – Taejah Robertson and
Martha Bissah both won their respective events as the Norfolk State women's track and field team participated in its final regular-season indoor meet of the season last weekend at the VMI Winter Relays.
Robertson ran three 60-meter hurdles rounds under 8.60 seconds. She clocked a time of 8.52 seconds in the semifinal round before finishing first in the finals with a time of 8.58. It was her first event win of this indoor season.
Bissah, on the other hand, notched her fifth event win of the indoor season in the team's six meets. She ran her first 3,000-meter race of the indoor campaign and cruised to the win in a time of 10 minutes, 13.40 seconds. That ranks as the fastest time in the MEAC this season.
Junior
Tyrika Lee also had a strong meet. She posted a PR in the semifinals of the 60 meters, clocking a time of 7.59 seconds. She took third in the finals in that event in 7.70. Lee also was runner-up in the 200 meters with a time of 24.86 seconds, her second-fastest in that event this season.
Elsewhere on the track, freshman
Malika Pride finished in the top 10 in both the 200 meters (10th, 25.33) and 500 meters (sixth, 1:17.71), and
Candice Higgins posted a season-best mile time in her 11th-place finish (5:14.20).
Freshman
Ayana Dozier and junior
Kellyann James both fared well in the pentathlon. Dozier won the final event, the 800 meters, en route to a second-place overall finish in the pentathlon (3,081 points). James placed third in the pentathlon with a score of 3,026.
In the field events,
Ravonna Hall placed ninth in the triple jump (36-0.75) and 14th in the long jump (17-4). Freshman
Takiyah Lewis took 13th in the weight throw (44-1).
The Spartans now turn their sights to the MEAC Indoor Championships, which run this Thursday through Saturday in Landover, Md.
