Milton, Warner Class of MEAC High Jumpers at Conference Indoor Championship

| By:
LANDOVER, Md. – All season long, sophomores Jacob Milton and Garth Warner have been the class of MEAC high jumpers, taking turns in the spotlight for the Norfolk State men.

That trend continued Friday at the MEAC Indoor Championships. Milton and Warner outclassed the competition and went head-to-head for the conference gold medal, with Milton edging out his teammate based on fewer misses to highlight the day for the Spartans at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.

NSU sits in fourth place in the team standings with one day of competition left in the meet. The Spartans have 32 points, while Hampton leads with 58.

Milton and Warner both cleared 7 feet, 1 inch, a personal record for both. Both athletes came up shy in their attempts at 7-3, but Milton had just one prior miss to Warner's three, giving Milton his third MEAC high jump gold medal (two indoor, one outdoor) in his first three conference championship meets. Their closest competition cleared 6-9.

It was a fitting end to the indoor season for the two teammates. Milton and Warner had both cleared at least 7-0 earlier this indoor season, and both had previously won two MEAC Field Athlete of the Week honors.

Elsewhere on Friday, the NSU men finished their evening by taking fifth in the distance medley relay. The quartet of Tyson Robinson, Jaylen Banks, Justin Pinder and Felix Kiprotich finished in 10 minutes, 25.57 seconds.

In earlier preliminaries, Trequan Barnes qualified for Saturday's 400-meter final. He won his heat in 48.81 seconds Friday. Barnes will also run in the final of the 200 meters on Saturday.

Saturday's final day of competition begins at 9:30 a.m. ESPN3 will broadcast the meet beginning at 1 p.m.
