Bissah Wins Mile, Pride Takes 3rd in 400 at Liberty

Meet Results

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Martha Bissah recorded her fourth event victory of the indoor season with a convincing first-place finish in the mile and freshman Malika Pride claimed third place in the 400 meters for the Norfolk State women's track and field team over the weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty University.

Bissah registered her best-ever indoor time in the mile and set a meet record in the process, finishing her race in 4 minutes, 52.34 seconds. She beat her closest competitor by nearly six seconds and lowered her previous season-best time in the event by more than seven seconds. The two-time reigning MEAC Athlete of the Week now has two wins in the mile to go with two in the 1,000 meters this indoor season.

Pride won her 400-meter heat in a season-best time of 56.48 seconds, which placed her third overall in the event. That ranks her among the eight-fastest 400m competitors in the conference this season.

Juniors Tyrika Lee and Candice Higgins also notched top-10 performances on the track at Liberty. Lee placed fifth in the 200 meters in 25.05 seconds. Higgins finished 10th in the 800 in 2:18.40, her best time of the season.

In the field events, redshirt freshman Ravonna Hall had the high finish for the Spartan women with her eighth-place showing in the long jump. Her best mark was 17 feet, 8.75 inches. Hall also claimed 12th place in the triple jump (36-4.75).

The Spartans' next meet is this Friday and Saturday at VMI, NSU's final competition before the MEAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 15-17.
