GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore
Jaylen Banks registered a personal-best in the 400-meter hurdles for the second time this week, earning a silver medal to lead the way for the Spartan men on the final day of competition at the 2018 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
Banks finished as the runner-up in the 400 hurdles for the second year in a row, clocking a time of 51.51 seconds on Saturday. That helped the Spartans place sixth overall in the team standings with 58 points. North Carolina A&T repeated as men's champion with 153 points.
Banks had clocked a 51.56 in the prelims on Thursday for his previous best time in the event.
Other top-five finishes for the men Saturday were turned in by sophomore
Felix Kiprotich in the 1,500 meters (fourth place, 3:57.32) and freshman
Trequan Barnes in the 400 meters (fifth place, 46.81). Freshman
Patrick Booker captured sixth in the pole vault after clearing 13 feet, 2.25 inches.
Several Spartans will participate in the NCAA East Preliminary Round from May 24-26. Entries will be announced later this month.
