Bissah Wins Twice at VMI

| By:
LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior Martha Bissah registered two victories over the weekend at the VMI Keydet Invitational, winning the 400 and 1,000-meter races at the Spartans' second meet of the indoor season.

Bissah shattered her own facility record in the 1,000 meters, clocking a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 45.52 seconds on Friday night. That was five seconds faster than her facility record from last year and two seconds better than her PR she set last weekend.

Bissah then won the 400-meter dash on Saturday, running an indoor PR 56.43 seconds.

Bissah's win in the 400 was part of a strong weekend in the sprints for the Spartan women. Sophomore Kiara Grant continued her strong start to the season with a second-place finish in the 60 meters in 7.47 seconds. Freshman DaJah Parker-Love placed fourth in 7.69 seconds.

In addition, sophomore Malika Pride was sixth in the 400 (57.80) and senior Tyrika Lee was eighth in the 200 (25.20). In the 4x400 relay, Pride, Lee, Parker-Love and senior Taejah Robertson won their heat and took ninth overall in 4:02.11.

Robertson also made her season debut in the 60-meter hurdles and placed fourth in 8.71 seconds.

In field events, freshman Akiera Sessoms posted a personal-best in the shot put (39 feet, 0.25 inch) and senior Kellyann James won her flight in the long jump (17-1).

The Spartans return to action this Friday and Saturday at the Penn State National.
