NORFOLK, Va. – Senior guard
Steven Whitley of the Norfolk State men's basketball team finished out the 2019 calendar year by being named the MEAC Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.
In the last non-conference game of the regular season for the Spartans, Whitley totaled 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting with 10 rebounds, eight assists and two steals on Sunday afternoon. NSU fell to Stony Brook on the road, 81-65.
Whitley shared this week's award with Coppin State's Koby Thomas. It marked the second weekly award for the Spartans this year.
A native of Norfolk, Whitley is currently averaging 10.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, shooting 45 percent from the floor.
NSU begins MEAC play at home this Saturday against Bethune-Cookman.
