| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior forward Jordan Butler of the men's basketball team earned the MEAC Player of the Week award on Tuesday afternoon when the conference office announced its weekly honors.

Butler scored a career-high tying 21 points in Saturday's 80-78 win at Howard, the only game last week for the Spartans. Of his 21 points, 18 came in the second half as NSU came back from a 24-point deficit to win in the last minute of play. The Spartans remained in first place in the league at 8-0, 13-10 overall.

He finished with his eighth career double-double, tallying 10 rebounds with three steals and one assist. Butler shot 9-of-11 from the floor, and 10 of his 18 second-half points came directly off offensive rebounds. Seven of his 10 boards were on the offensive side of the ball.

For the season, Butler is averaging 9.0 points and team-leading totals of 6.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. He is shooting 47 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line.

It marked the fourth time this year an NSU player took home the player of the week award, and the third weekly award for Butler along with a pair of MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Norfolk State returns to the court this Saturday at Bethune-Cookman before a game on Monday night at Florida A&M.
