CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Sophomore
Kiara Grant highlighted a stellar meet on the track for the NSU women's team at the U.Va. Grand Prix by winning the 100 and 200-meter dash events on Saturday afternoon.
Grant ran the fifth-fastest 100m time in the NCAA East Region this outdoor season with a blistering 11.18, nearly three-tenths faster than her previous PR. She led three Spartans in the top five at U.Va., as freshman
DaJah Parker-Love ran a PR of 11.58 in a third-place finish and senior
Tyrika Lee was fifth in 11.74.
NSU went a step better in the 200 meters as four Spartans finished in the top five. Grant won it in 23.58, while three of her teammates registered personal records: sophomore
Malika Pride was second in 23.80, Parker-Love clocked a 23.94 to place fourth and Lee was just a fraction behind (also in 23.94, officially) in fifth place.
That quartet also teamed up to win the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 45.53 seconds, the group's second-fastest time of the season.
Pride also doubled up on individual events on Saturday. She clocked a PR of 54.94 seconds in the 400 meters, good for a second-place finish.
The Spartans' other win Saturday came via junior
Martha Bissah in the 800 meters. Running her first half-mile race of outdoor season, the Spartans' All-American won at U.Va. in a time of 2 minutes, 4.38 seconds, the top time in the MEAC and No. 6 in the East Region this season.
The Spartans now set their sights on the 2019 MEAC Outdoor Championships, which take place this Thursday through Saturday on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, North Carolina.
