EARLYSVILLE, Va. – Martha Bissah crossed the line 11th in a field of 149 runners to pace the Norfolk State women's cross country team on Friday morning at the Panorama Farms Invitational.
In the Spartans' first 6,000-meter race of the season, Bissah came within 10 seconds of her personal record. She finished in 21 minutes, 1.1 seconds as the Spartans placed 13th out of 15 teams. NSU bested a pair of in-state programs, Richmond and Radford.
Sophomore
Fridah Koech was NSU's next-highest finisher, placing 58th in 22:34.3. That also represents a 6K PR for Koech.
Caroline Samoei placed third among Spartan runners in a time of 23:44.9. Freshman
Kara Grant was fourth in 24:34.7, and senior
Nelly Jerop rounded out the five Spartans with a time of 27:21.5.
The Spartans are off until Oct. 18 when they compete at the East Carolina Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C.
