NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State freshman guard Tyrese Jenkins turned a career performance on Saturday into this week's MEAC Rookie of the Week Award, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Spartan men's basketball team played just one game in a week's time, a 62-52 win over Maryland Eastern Shore at home on Saturday. Jenkins played a big part in the victory, leading all scorers with 19 points on 5-of-8 shooting, 3-of-4 from deep.
 
He topped his previous career best of six points, hitting 6-of-6 alone from the free throw line against the Hawks in addition to those five field goals. He added three rebounds, two assists and one steal. He was one of just two Spartan players in double figures.
 
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Jenkins gives NSU its third weekly award from the league so far this year, including its second rookie award.
 
The Spartans will next host South Carolina State this Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
