| By:
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Kamil Jihad clocked a personal-best in a runner-up finish in the 800 meters in a weekend full of PRs and season bests for the Spartan men at the Penn State National Open.

Jihad placed second in the half-mile in 1:53.49 Saturday at PSU, the same site as his previous indoor PR in the event last year. The time also vaults him to No. 3 in the MEAC based on times entering this weekend.

Spartan men posted season bests in almost every track event over the weekend. It started with NSU's 60-meter sprinters on Friday, as Keith Brown (6.77) and Kai Cole (6.78) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, while registering their top times of the season. Brown's time also matches his personal best.

Savien Hayes was just a hundredth of a second off his season best in the 200m, as he placed ninth in 21.44 seconds Saturday. Trequan Barnes capped a strong weekend for the Spartan sprinters with a season-best in the invitational second of the 400m. Barnes placed fourth in the event in 47.62 seconds.

Along with Jihad, middle distance runners Je'Shawn Walker (4:20.75) and Lelei Too (4:21.55) also notched their season-best times in the mile on Saturday. Evans Cheruiyot led the distance crew with a seventh-place showing in the invitational 5,000 meters. His time of 14:58.95 is tops in the MEAC so far this year.

In field events, three Spartans placed in the top 12 in the high jump. Jacob Milton (sixth place) and Garth Warner (ninth) both cleared 6 feet, 9 inches. Kequan Henley matched his indoor PR of 6-7 while placing 12th.

Azad Williams also notched a season-best Saturday in the shot put with a top throw of 48-11.

The Spartans are back in action next Friday and Saturday at the VMI Winter Relays.
