LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lelei Too won the 1,000 meters and
Kequan Henley posted a pair of top-five finishes in the field as the NSU men completed their final tuneup for the MEAC Indoor Track Championships over the weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational at Liberty University.
Too clocked a winning time of 2 minutes, 30.59 seconds in the 1,000m. He was followed closely by teammate
Kamil Jihad, who placed third in 2:31.96.
Henley highlighted the weekend for the field athletes with a strong showing in the jumps. He cleared a personal-best height of 6 feet, 7.5 inches in the high jump while placing third. Henley also long jumped 22-7.25, earning fifth place.
In other field events, freshman
Azad Williams posted a season-best throw of 49-11.75 in the shot put, good for 11
th place. Fellow freshman
Anthony Giacchetta cleared 13-0.75 in the pole vault.
The Spartans also performed well in the sprints.
Trequan Barnes was runner-up in the 400 meters in 47.84 seconds, one of two athletes who bested the previous meet record.
Kai Cole and
Keith Brown both earned a pair of top-10 finishes in the 60 and 200 meters. Cole finished fourth in the 60 in 6.82 seconds, and notched a fifth-place finish in the 200 (21.59). Brown was sixth in the 60 (6.89) and placed seventh in the 200 (21.68).
The Spartans are off next week before competing at the 2020 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships from Feb. 27-29 in Landover, Maryland.
