Bissah, Grant Voted to All-State 1st Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior Martha Bissah added another award to her resume on Tuesday when she was named the inaugural Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, the organization announced.

Bissah (middle distance) and junior Kiara Grant (sprints) were both voted to the VaSID University Division all-state first team, which recognizes the top track and field athletes from Division I programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Bissah won conference titles in the 800 meters, mile and 3,000 meters to secure her third MEAC Indoor Most Outstanding Track Athlete award in February. She also ran a leg on the winning distance medley relay and a leg on the fifth-place 4x400 relay, helping the Spartans finish as the runners-up in the team standings.

Bissah never lost an individual MEAC indoor championship race in her career, winning a total of 11 gold medals.

Grant repeated as MEAC 60-meter dash champion, matching her own meet record time of 7.22 seconds in the finals. Grant was also MEAC runner-up in the 200 meters in 23.64 seconds. She ranked 10th nationally in the 60 meters and 16th in the 200 with top times of 7.20 and 23.25 seconds, respectively.

Grant qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship in both sprints and Bissah (season-best of 2:05.38) in the 800 meters, but the meet was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
