NORFOLK, Va. – The preseason predictions are out for MEAC volleyball, and Norfolk State will look to surprise a lot of people after being picked sixth in the Northern Division. This year's preseason poll and preseason All-MEAC Team were released by the conference office on Tuesday.
 
In July, the 2020 fall sports season was suspended by the MEAC due to COVID-19. Last week, the conference office announced plans to hold the 2020 fall volleyball campaign during the 2021 spring semester, beginning in January, pending NCAA scheduling guidelines and the status of the pandemic.
 
The Spartans did garner one first-place vote as they finished with 30 total points in the voting. They trailed the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore, who were one spot ahead of NSU in fifth place. Only two points separated the third through fifth spots in the division.
 
With a whole host of new players set to join the program this year, coupled with another fairly large senior class, Norfolk State will be on the hunt after also finishing sixth last year in the division at 2-13. A total of eight seniors finished their careers in 2019 as the Spartans now get ready to welcome a large incoming class.
 
Setter and right side hitter Edie Brewer of North Carolina A&T was selected as the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year. The Aggies were picked to finish first in the Southern Division, with 20 of 22 first-place votes. Howard garnered 20 of 22 first-place votes in the North. Along with NSU, Morgan State also had one first-place vote in the North.
 
Brewer was one of seven players named to the Preseason All-MEAC Team. Those seven players hail from four of the 11 teams in the league. Voting was done by the MEAC's head coaches and sports information directors.
